January 2023: New Block of the Month Pattern!

Hello my lovelies! It’s that time of year! Meaning, the start of a new year and time to start the new 2023 Block of the Month!

I’ve been hard at work putting together the new pattern for 2023 and I’m pretty stoked about it! This year we will be doing things similar to last year – meaning there will be one block pattern released each month as well as 13 “filler” blocks. Here’s a sneak peek at the new layout!

Log Cabin Filler Block

What is a “filler” block? It’s basically just using any quilt block you want to fill in the quilt and make it larger.  This year we are using the classic Log Cabin block to fill in the quilt and make it a larger size! With all the monthly blocks and the 13 log cabin blocks the finished quilt size will be 64” x 64”. There is a small bit of info about doing the quilt up to a queen size if you prefer.  All that is listed in the beginning instructions.

All the quilt blocks will be finished at 12” – meaning as you are sewing them up they should measure 12 ½”. The extra half inch is the seam allowance and once the quilt blocks are sewn together they will be the correct 12” size.

We’re doing things a little differently this year however. Instead of getting the pattern at the end of the blog post, you can now find the patterns in my shop! There will still be a link here so you can just follow the link to the Shop page. All of the monthly patterns will be released over there!

The pattern includes everything such as Fabric requirements, suggestions on picking fabric colors, the log cabin block pattern, and the first month pattern – Flying Geese Squared!

This block is a fun one using a Square in a Square and also the ever present Half Square Triangle, or HSTs!

As you’re sewing this up, feel free to share on social media using the hashtag #seweasybom or join us over on Facebook.

Thanks for joining in on the 2023 Sew Easy Block of the Month! Can’t wait to see what you create!
