Back to School Mini Quilt
Hello my lovelies!! Here we are with fall fast approaching. I’m so excited for the cooler weather and for the kiddos to be back in school. To celebrate the start to another school year, I wrote a cute little pattern for all of you!
This little mini quilt has a mini quilt block right in the middle! I decided a school bus would be a fun block, but I needed to add my own little twist. When I showed it to my hubby he was very confused with why there was a star quilt block on a school bus. My response was, “But why not?” Lol! We should put quilt blocks everywhere!
This mini quilt finishes up to 12″ x 18″ – which is conveniently the same size for the average placemat! So you could whip up a few of these mini quilts as a fun back to school placemat for your kiddos! It also is a great size for giving as a gift to teachers. You could add the teacher’s name to the school bus or the background fabric using hand embroidery or applique! The possibilities for such a tiny quilt are endless!
The other benefit of having such a small quilt is that you can quilt it right on your domestic machine! I’m a bit extra and I still quilted it on my longarm. But I wanted to try it out as a sample before I shared this project on YouTube. I actually showed how to quilt this mini quilt on a Livestream for Sewing Machines Plus (SMP) last week. This has been a busy week for me because of my teaching events with Handi Quilter. I did four different Livestreams with SMP because last week was their annual online QuiltFest! They had a whole host of different companies and products for 8 hours every day! I was lucky enough to share several different projects made on the amazing Handi Quilter longarm machines.
I’m using the Moxie ST here to work on a Pumpkin table runner. The Moxie ST is a stationary longarm is perfect for small spaces because it’s on a table that is only 38″ wide instead of a full 8′ frame. And peep the quilt behind me! It’s the Autumn Friendship quilt pattern!
